Dear car owner, we tried to stop them, but it was the police...sooo...ummm

WHERE THE HELL HAVE WE BEEN? Oh, ya know, just watching people get their cars towed.

It's been a slacker week yall, pay day is friday- today we popped a squat on a bench and called it a day with a sandwich and some sushi. Nothing special, just your local whatever feed me kinda thing. But this post is for whoevers car this is. My bad dude, this sucks.

Lunchladys tip our hats to you, we morn the loss of all 5 of those Benjamin Franklins you're gonna lose on this one.

Good bye little red car, we hope you weren't stolen so that we can be all F the police style.

this footlongs for you,

Maryam

What? Where?

No, we haven't stopped eating.

(In case anyone, anywhere was wondering.)

We've definitely been lunching....

Think of the week before pay-day as a treasure hunt. A hunt for the cheapest (often free) food we can find.

Leftovers, samplings from whole foods, even subway sandwiches can get thrown in there.

Yuck!

We will return with the most amazing and delicious blog you can imagine... as soon as we find the right spot.

Patiently awaiting the best spring lunch,

Olivia

Bao, Bao Booooooring

I refuse! To talk about how wonderful this place is; if not for the simple fact that I like to be counter to everything. Hahah yeh right, that's what u thought! I'm a lemonade out of lemons kind of marmalady. But this place, although pumpin some SERIOUS flavor is a rip offffffffffffffffffff.

Baohaus reminds me of some things white people like. Like Jacking up the mutha fuckin price! And although I like to be able to claim white when its convienant for me, I aint white on this one.

This one is like this: don't believe the hype.

Although super yummy, I am not! Travelling outside of my work zone to get some yummie taiwanesse street food that has taken advantage of the price of the lease on the street ur on. I don't care how much u pay in rent or what type of peanuts u got!

I make peanuts, so fill my belly with somethin else. I would have had to spend $15 to get something close to be filling, and that's not a lunchladys attitude. They have done a good job with PR hyping them bigger than they should, and kudos to utilizing social marketing to get customers. But, I'm over that.

It reminds me of what happened to Ox Tail. Ox Tail used to be the meat that was thrown out from butcher shops, and then the impoverished found a way to spice it up and make it yummy. Now it's the most expensive dish on the menu! PORK BELLY has become the new foodie food, and it was once declared utter waste of meat. Now, beafed up and blogged outta control to a point its a delicacy. Puhlease....what are broke people supposed to eat now if even the discarded meat is outta our league?

Lemme speak it in ur language. (To the tune of baby got back)

'U aint got none on the cheaper buns hun. I aint comin back."

I might come back for one of these sodas though....

I dare you to say somethin'

It's ALL Good

There are times in your life when all positive realms align and it’s all good.

Aids Walk was this weekend, and the Lunchladys plus Mission Impossible decided since we were technically working, we technically lunched, but literally brunched. We treated ourselves to Petrossian, an uppity place that is on 911 Seventh Ave (between 57th and 58th St.)

Why some uppidty place? Because bitches walked, we were in serious need of a mimosa and some eggs

Lunchlady Olivia & Mission Impossible had:

Pain Perdue $15.00 thick slice of Homemade Bread dipped in a Flavored Egg Mixture, Scrambled Eggs, Crispy Apple Smoked Bacon, Maple Syrup, Jam, Coffee or Tea(The Batter has a hint of Grand Marnier).

Lunchlady Maryam devoured her:

Petrossian Breakfast $14.00 Slice of Smoked Salmon, Scrambled Eggs, Jam, Toast Points, Orange Juice, Coffee or Tea.

YUUUUUUUUUUUM.

Not the best brunch I ever had, and honestly overpriced, but worth the experience.

The best part of this meal, was taking a stroll in the park. It’s THAT season again!

People are falling in love, making BBQ’s, women slowly unveiling the skin with short shorts and sundresses. Skin brings on the hootin & hollerin season, which brings us to sandal wearing, beach babes, drinking under the moon outdoors, deciding to activate that gym membership again, and GET THAT BIKE FIXED season.

It’s that time of year where people are alive. So go be alive.

Ciao,
Maryam

Nothing like a Lunch Picnic

I was fortunate to be born with the ability to spell. Thanks, Mom (the english professor). So second place in a spelling bee fundraiser isn't half bad.

My prize: chhheeeessseee! (screw you lactose intolerance)

Not just any cheese, though. It's from MURRAYS. The one on Bleeker. Definitely can get to within the hour if you're by the ABCDEFV. Or there's two locations near Grand Central Terminal.

The box was filled with three different meats, two kinds of salami and prosciutto. An apple spread, raw cherry honey (YUUUUUUUUM), and 5 different cheeses.

YUUUUUUUUUUM

So with the nice weather, hopefully re-approaching... it's about time for a picnic in our nearby park!

P.S - its not cheap, but worth the splurge, just once.

You'll find me under the oak tree,

Curry Up

Maryam was right... Indian food it was. I passed by this place the other day, grabbed the menu, and *bookmarked* it in my mind.

The Sirtaj is a quaint little place on 26th. Not too close to any major anything.

A real dingy, I do mean quaint, looking place..

some mulligatawny soup - mediocre

more mediocre chicken curry with rice

cheese naan & garlic naan

Okay, I didn't eat this all by myself.. I had my other co-worker stand in for my other lunchlady. We'll call her Mission Impossible. She had the soup and cheese naan for approximately $7.

I had the chicken curry that lacked flavor, the garlic naan with the same outcome, and a can of Fanta = $11.18.

Not. Worth. It.

Maryam- we'll need to go back to the Indian buffet on 7th to make up for this!

I won't even give this a YUM rating :(

Dissatisfied curry lover,

Olivia

WHAT?! A food search engine?

I tell you no lies. Search for recipes at Yummly.com. This website is great, and the more you search the more it learns about your tastes. Think of it like the Pandora of food. I love it and I know the first recipe I'm trying....EGGPLANT CASEROLE!

But what are the lunchladys having for lunch? I hear it's Indian, oh yeh boyeeeeeee!

Sag on my paneer,

Separate but Equally Filling

So due to work restrictions, the lunchladys were unable to meet for lunch. We decided on sharing our separate meal options for the day instead. Maryam had breakfast up in the Bronx whilst (my favorite word) I opted for a trip to 14th & 8th for a sandwich.
Breakfast - Maryam style
Let's start the day off with a hefty breakfast that will last you through the morning and well into the late afternoon.

Fried Eggs
Yuca
Salami
Fried cheese
Coffee
= $6

YUUUUUUUUUUUM

Ability to get this in almost every neighborhood in the city for the same price - bonus!

And the location of this sweet spot: Comida (not quite sure of the name) on Grand Concourse and 182nd. BX, NY

Now, on to LUNCH with Olivia:
After my own unmentionable breakfast... I decided upon a simple sandwich for lunch. (I had McDonald's - don't judge me).
However, when it comes to simple... $6.80 really can get you pretty far.

a lamb donar from Istanbul Grill on 14th.

Add hummus for an extra $.50. Since I'm a sucker for hummus, I learned how to make my own... try it out with the gadget at the bottom of the page ;)

YUUUUUUUUUUUM

Not quite ready for another meal yet,

How to impress a boy? Just do what he likes.

Sorry fellow lunchlady Olivia, I had to ditch you today for a cute lunch date. My gallant partner was missed on the homage to the West Village in our unrelenting search of a humble meal. But, I made it back to the office within mere seconds of an hour; returning just in time to report back from the new found land...

Want to impress the boy you have your eye on by taking him to a delicious place he has already been to 13 times within the last 4 weeks?! Ugh, failure.

Psych (naw)! Well if he has been there so many times, it must mean he likes it. You definitely don't want to bother with indecision when you're on a lunch time crunch, and you DEFINITELY don't want to risk a boys lunch happiness. So stop while you're ahead, go somewhere nearby and have a delicious taim (time).

Go to TAIM!!!!!!! YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM

Voila, their menu. Everything, and I mean everything, is worth the dime. I had the Sabich Sandwich which is fried eggplant, egg, covered with hummus, israeli salad, tahini and amba sauce. I honestly could go without the egg in there, not big on eggs really. Ate that Sabich (haha) with a Ginger Mint Lemonade  the beau had THE CLASSIC FALAFEL! Total for 2= $ 15.25

And don't mind if I do, but I am going out on a NY limb and claiming this as the BEST FALAFEL IN NYC.

To unexpected dates and yummy plates!

Maryam

Too Hungry To Take Pictures

We realized after walking out of the store that we hadn't photographed our sandwiches... whoops!

But if you are in or around Chelsea and are looking for a hefty, filling, cheap sandwich... a cuban usually does the trick.

At Casa Havana the Cubans are delicious... just as delightful, though, would be the pernil sandwich.

We spent a total of $14.95 between the two of us / including one coffee and a side of french fries.

Pretty sweet deal. Fits right into our cheap lunch lady lunches.

Sadly been a little out of the lunch loop lately,

Olivia

I AM THE CHAMPION, OF WHOLEFOODS (sung to the tune of 'we are the champions)

After I realized someone has eaten my leftovers....Plan B!

Ever get pissed at whole foods for being just too expensive, and always feel like you get duped at the salad bar?

I have conquered Whole Foods ladies and gentlemen. I spent $4.15 on my meal today. "How?!" You ask. It's all about selection. I have the perfect selection for you on a humid day like today that will leave you fulfilled, healthy, satisfied, and with change in your pockets.

Step 1: Grab a small box, it will inevitably make it cheaper and I promise; your eyes are bigger than your stomach.

Step 2: Stuff as much kale salad inside your box. It literally weighs NOTHING.

Step 3: Pick a noodle side that matches your asian salad. I went with Soba noodles with Seitan. Place a handful amount on top of your greens.

Chew, chew, repeat. YUUUUUUUUUUM

*** Hint to the hungry- while choosing your food, place a few vegan chicken nuggets in your box and munch on them for free. Or free to me!

Another cheapo option is for the sandwich lover: Grab a $2.50 side of chicken salad or tuna salad or vegan option of both. These can be found next to the "premade sandwichs, salads, and pizza". Grab a whole wheat croissant for $.79 and VOILA! Cheapeast easiest ever.....

Enjoy.
Love you long time,
Maryam

Leftovers for lunch, Fatty 'Cue for dinner.

I'm trying this place for dinner. They fry your fish bones and feed you them with thai sauces!!!! Never had that before. It's my Fatty 'Cue !!!

Meat Head,

Maryam
